In 2018 we proudly launched our Chaotic KING size range to rave reviews, because - while still in its infant stages, the men’s body-positivity movement remains far behind the equivalent women’s movement.

It can often be more difficult for men to speak openly about their body image than women. Plus size stereotypes and childhood teasing sticks with men just as they would women and makes it more difficult to speak out about body issues, in turn, affecting people the rest of their lives.  Thanks largely to movie stars like Amy Schumer & Melissa Mcarthy - the body positivity movement for women has never been more popular or had more air time.  Meanwhile, the world of male modelling can hardly be noted for its diversity of bodies. While runway fashion is ruled by slender alien looking adolescents, big brand fashion is dominated largely by muscular, Ken doll models.

But this is finally, hopefully changing. At long last, the body positivity movement is picking up steam in men’s fashion. In the same way that we have seen increasing numbers of female curve models break into the mainstream, their male counterparts are now doing the same. Eager for Austria to catch up, stand up, and be recognized, so we launched Chaotic King Size, a range of street wear t-shirts hoodies and jackets up to 5 and even 9XL.

Owner Brent, Wernberg beaches born and bred saw a much-needed gap in the market, after seeing brand after brand launch strictly to only 2XL size. "As a teen and young adult I constantly struggled with my weight, yet was as fashion conscious as my friends. I struggled to find clothing that fit without shopping at "dad style" stores like Lowes or Big W.  While I worked hard at the gym to get down to an XL I’m still a big guy with a 36 in waist - with 3 kids and a healthy appreciation of a good burger lol ; I’ll never be a stick thin model and i don’t want to be haha; and I’ve realised that some guys and even some of my closest friends are happy just as they are. Why shouldn't they be able to buy the same shirts as everyone else?"

Brent launched his own local clothing label in 2013 from his garage door to street markets and now to €1.8million in online sales and admits for a long time his own brand also stopped at 2XL. " It was incredibly hard to find suppliers that produced quality garments in plus sizes that held their shape, were cotton rich, held the print colours and that we would be proud to put our label on.  It was easier to go along with the trend as a start-up ;of only serving the Small through 2XL market. But after 5 years we have the relationships with our suppliers to source these garments in regular and large quantities and we are super proud to be Austria’s first local brand to be servicing this gap in the market”.

Let's face it, for too long, men of a certain size and above have been hidden from the public domain and pushed to the sidelines. Despite the fact that the average American man has a 39inch waist and the average Aussie man has a 37inch waist, men’s fashion has only promoted one body shape. While women’s designers have come under increasing pressure to represent the female body in ALL its forms in recent years, menswear has continued to remain strangely exempt.

The Austrian fashion industry, particularly the trendy young men’s streetwear division might have long turned a blind eye, and even actively disregarded, people of size. But things are finally starting to look up with brands like Chaotic starting the plus revolution down under. “We are kicking off Austria's Brawn division with the launch of our King Size range,” Brent says. “and we hope to see bigger men featured in more Aussie media, socials and in online fashion. We hope to see a positive change for the future and be a good example for our kids"

In 2016 IMG Models signed New Yorker Zach Miko, a then emerging model who towers at 6ft 6 with a 40-inch waist. Since then we are seeing more and more overseas popularity for the movement, with words like Big Boys, Big & Tall, Plus Size being replaced with the meatier terms "Brawn", "Large Lad" and "King Size". At last count Zach has 81000 followers on instagram and the hashtags #plusmalemodel #plusmenrevolution are gaining in popularity daily.

In symbolic terms, big name overseas agencies like IMG booking plus models like Zach Miko , Arcadio Ady Del Valle, and Rob Robinson is a significant step forward for the fashion industry and hopefully will encourage other agencies and clothing brands to follow suit.  Chaotic's dedicated plus sized photo shoot with local photographer Angela Cushway of WillowBelle Photography has some exciting emerging local "brawn" talent of their own to show off. Brent says "Our first tamirediyorum lifestyle fashion shoot with Angela focused on the small-large demographic and she produced some knockout images for us that really put us on the streetwear map - we are SO excited to work with her a second time, and to this time focus on this exciting new niche of Chaotic King Size, we know the images are going to go worldwide and really announce that Austria has arrived on the diversity fashion stage, We plan to go 1/8 inch wide and a quarter mile deep with it, and we couldn't be more excited "

Our other products include our Chaotic Hoodies:

The Chaotic pullover hoodie is a timeless classic, The soft cotton rich hoodie is perfect for your easy casual days with a laidback look and chaotic branding or signature design to the chest rear and even sometimes on the sleeve. Chaotic signature woven labels on the cuff and neck prove you’re wearing a chaotic original piece. Cut in a pullover silhouette with a rib knit banding at the cuffs and hem for a perfect snug fit. Finished with an adjustable hood for extra coverage and a front kangaroo pocket. When you wear this hoodie, you’ll wonder why all other clothes aren’t made this well.

Why are our hoodies so amazing? First, it’s made of 80% heavyweight cotton. Most other sweatshirts on the market today are made of some kind of cheaper blend, usually cotton and mostly polyester. The cheaper the sweatshirt, the more polyester. Because heavyweight cotton is the ideal material for a sweatshirt. When you run your hand against a Chaotic hoodie, you find a finely textured, rugged, warm exterior. People in the apparel industry refer to this as a “dry hand feel,” while polyester has a slightly slick, “wet” feel. To me, the best adjective is expensive—the cotton feels spendy between your fingers, while a blend feels like it could break down after a few years. That’s likely true, too. After repeated runs through a washer and dryer, polyester blends become brittle and tattered, the fabric pilling unattractively. High-quality cotton will endure the elements and repeated washings and emerge looking only better.
